Though you can list items you are selling without listing fees in our Sell area, we have created this section for those who wish to give away items that they want to recycle, or simply provide to those who can put them to good use, while avoiding a possible addition to the landfills. Tired of Freecycle's anal-retentive moderators kicking back your listing because they didn't deem it worthy of listing, or you didn't present it in the correct format? Don't like the idea that a Moderator on Freecycle can cherry-pick submissions? Perhaps you just don't like the fact that they are sponsored by a garbage company who has a bad record of violations with the EPA? Maybe you just want to expand your viewing area because someone farther than your "local" Freecycle website might actually be willing to travel a little further to take away your item. Though we have some guidelines, they are far less sphincter tight than Freecycles... About Freebies and How To List or Obtain Offers We are only too pleased to provide an area for members to offer free items. There is no charge for creating a basic listing. However, these items MUST be offered for free. This means NO Shipping Charges, or any cost to an individual wishing to obtain your item. There are also other factors that should be observed when listing a Freebie, due to the nature of our website and how it returns search results: OFFERING (Creating a Listing): 1) In the "Item Title" of your listing screen insert your Town/City first, your County/Region, your State/Province, and then your item name. Doing this will allow those who follow search instructions for Freebies to more easily locate those in their area. 2) Your description cannot place stipulations on the free item, such as, "Buy my X-Y-Z item and I will include this for free." 3) Do not offer to ship the item unless you are paying for shipping. 4) Your offer must be a tangible item. This means no offers of downloads, ebooks, websites, etc.! NO LINKS! 5) You are in charge of your own listings. If the item is no longer available, please delete it. 6) If you later find the item is being sold on Bid4Jeeps, eBay, at a local flea market, a garage sale, or any other selling venue notify us immediately. Profiting from receiving a freebie is not tolerated. TAKING A FREE ITEM 1) Contact the offering member through the "Ask Poster A Question" link. 2) The offering member has the right to choose any individual, if multiple requests to take the item are received. 2) If an agreement is made to pick up the item - follow through on it. 3) Do NOT offer to purchase the item. This will result in a suspension or a ban! 4) Do NOT place the item for sale at a later date - instead, give it away as a freebie to someone else in need. 5) If the offering member stipulates a charge of any kind, notify us immediately. SEARCHING If a member listing a Freebie has taken the time to read our instructions, the best way to search for free items is to start with your local areas as the search term. As an example, in our own area we might begin with "Monroe", a nearby county. This will return listings with "Monroe" in the title. From that point, if there are numerous listings returned, you can then scroll the results and recognize neighboring towns in the title and what is being offered. If everyone follows the listing guidelines above, this method will eliminate virtually all listings from the results that are not free, but still in our search database and will return results from the area in which you are willing to travel to. |
